Climate Change Adaptation Planning: A Handbook for Small Canadian Communities

Want to know how to develop a climate change adaptation plan for your community? Confused by the intricacies of risk assessment? With support from Natural Resources Canada, CIP has produced a climate change adaptation planning Handbook, which outlines a simple, community-based, six-step planning process that can be completed over a 12 to18 month period. The process includes charts and templates for easy identification and assessment of climate change risks and opportunities.

The Handbook (http://www.planningforclimatechange.ca/wwwroot/Docs/Library/CIPReports/R...) builds on community climate change adaptation plans completed in the Atlantic Region. It helps planners and decision-makers determine what strategic actions need to be taken to tackle the multiple challenges of climate change facing the public and private sectors in their communities. The Handbook recommends public engagement techniques appropriate to each planning step and offers helpful hints and resources.

The Handbook is a free resource and, although it is aimed at small communities, may be used by any planner engaged in climate change adaptation planning.
